Anthem For Doomed Youth By Wilfred Owen - 1187 Words
Wilfred Owen joined the corps in 1915, at the tender age of twenty-two therefore his poems are testimonial, reflecting the gullibility evinced by many of the other young soldiers who fought in the World War. Consequently, Owenââ¬â¢s poems allude to a theme of the loss of innocence in the young soldiers as they were unprepared for the reality of what they would encounter. He also illustrates that the soldiers joined for materialistic reasons (e.g. titles, patronage) spurred in by the fervent propaganda. The presentation of Anthem for Doomed Youth, in a pessimistic and bleak manner, reinforces Owenââ¬â¢s frustration at the misfortune entrenched into the young soldiers lives as a result of the war. Irony is evident through the title, as youth and doomed are juxtaposed. ââ¬ËYouthââ¬â¢ is often associated with optimism and liberty whilst ââ¬Ëdoomedââ¬â¢ imitates inevitable ruin. Consequently, Owen uses this paradox to suggest that these soldiers are prone to lose their youth and are destined to have a bitter future. Furthermore, using the term ââ¬Ëanthemââ¬â¢ to describe the poem is somewhat satirical as he hints at the prevailing attitude of nationalism which existed during the time of war but where anthems tend to be elevating and celebratory, the tone of this ââ¬Ëanthemââ¬â¢ is tragic. ââ¬ËAnthem for Doomed Youthââ¬â¢ is a poem that explores the effect of post-traumatic stress disorder and the mistreatment that the soldiers experience even after death. Science Supporting Mental Illness And The Diagnosis Thereof
There has been many strides in the field dedicated to the science supporting mental illness and the diagnosis thereof. Today there exists two widely adopted methodologies to diagnosing and classifying mental disorders amongst psychology and psychiatry professionals. One process; the ICD-10 (International Statistical Classification of Disease), which is maintained by the World Health Organization, was adopted by the United Nations with the introduction of the first section on Mental Health in the 1949 publication of ICD-6. The DSM-5 is the second, it was introduced by the APA (American Psychological Association) in 1952. While both methods of discernment have been greatly useful in furthering the science to aiding those who suffer from mental illness, it is important to note that it is not my intention to deduce any form of resolve that suggests my stance is a claim of fact that the phenomena of mental illness, to include the extensive fields surrounding the mental health sciences , are in any way fictitious or embellished. In my opinion, there is no question that undeniable proof that there are in fact individuals whom suffer and struggle daily from the ramifications of overwhelming social and psychological quagmires. Business Process Modelling For Organisations - Myassignmenthelp.Com
Questions: What is the role of business process modelling for organisations such as Balogne? What are some benefits to the General Manager, Ms Erica Norris in viewing a Process Model such as your Swim Lane diagram for Balogne? Include your Swim Lane diagram (from Task B) as part of your explanation How could using a software tool such as Microsoft Excel support Ericas business decision-making? Refer to the two (2) graphs (from Task C) as part of your explanation. How could Balogne use Web 2.0 applications to better collaborate inside and outside the organisation? In your explanation include two (2) different types of Web 2.0 applications you would recommend for adoption by Balogne. The first application must address the use of Web 2.0 for internal communication while the second application could be used to communicate with farmers or distributors. Answers: Introduction The report comprises of three parts. The first one describes the business process modelling of the company BalognePty. Ltd. The second part includes how the web 2.0 will effective for the communication of internal and external processes of the company (Andriole 2012). The third part have sales data analysis from using excel and net profit index of the years 2014 and 2015. Part A Business process modelling, its usefulness for Balogne A business process modelling is a series of activities in a diagram connected through lines. A flow chart of activities that an organisation goes through to achieve the product that are sold in the market. It is essential for higher-level organisations and has continuous improvement of their operational activities (Tredinnick 2013). It includes both Information technology process and people process. The flow chart includes the resources and activities that are there for combining the work. The bigger the organisation the more scalability and complex the operations and the process involved. The purpose of this flow diagram is to materialise the outcome of the performance parameters and focus improvement. Increase value added actions for the customer and reduce cost for the company. It also makes divisions of activity and makes distinct responsibility points. The process model of the activities of Balogne makes distinct process that the company goes through and different departments that are there to handle different responsibility (Chen, Chiang and Storey 2012). The general manager can view the different department and the activities that are there in the process flow diagram in part B. The five different departments consolidate the process the company goes through to make consumable sugar. It is helpful in decision making with the help of the sales data and analysis part. It also helps in identifying redundancies, gap and if there is any duplication of process. Utility of Microsoft excel in business decisions The software tool is helpful for analysis and drawing conclusion from the sales data that are collected from the business tool. The functioning (fx) in Microsoft excel is rather easy to use for calculation and if the data and its observations are huge in number one can easily draw conclusion. The explanation of the graphs and their analysis The values got using the functions of Microsoft excel are given in the spreadsheet. The golden syrup component of sugar is the most profit making and the percentage of growth from 2014 to 2015 is the highest near about 51% of growth in earning as well as profit. The ascending order of growth is brown sugar raw sugar icing caster are accordingly in making growth in earning. The loss making components of sugar are in ascending order white sugar sugar cubes treacle. Graph 2 suggests the difference in the earnings in 2014 and 2015. This gives the insight that the company is growing by years and their earnings are growing. The difference in earnings in dollars is $13, 42,300. The investment decisions can be made by this information and where the sale is increasing and where the products are making loss and what are the future steps that can be taken for recovery from loss can be identified from the excel sheet. The outlook of the % growth or loss in difference is given in the V-looku p function and the intensity of growth and loss can also be calculated. Use of web 2.0 for Balogne Web2.0 is worldwide websites that are used for better communication among the organisations and the companies that use this have really benefited from this.69% of users of web 2.0 has benefited from this new technology. This enable the company by introducing more innovative products, marketing that is more effective, idea sharing, improved communication, better access of knowledge, lower cost of doing business, higher revenues(Jussila, Krkkinen and Aramo-Immonen 2014). This also enhances the cultural benefit of the organisation and better networking of internal and external stakeholders (Venkatesh Croteau and Rabah 2014). The integration of the whole organisation process can also be benefited as that may include the whole Enterprise resource planning affective (Sigala 2012). The features that make it unique are user generated content, interoperability(Kim, Lee and Lee 2013) Collaborative consumption Mash up applications Ease of use The two different types of application that will be useful for the Balogne are Integration and communication The interdepartmental communication is very essential for and organisation to have a smooth process (Tucker 2014). This application can be used for communication between the departments and thus it enhances the use of email, fax, feed processor, file sender, instant messenger, polls, voicemails, micro blogging and web conferencing. Integration, writing applications and networking office suites, boards, feed reader, which includes Google Reader, Blog lines, Feed Lounge, Feeds 2.0,News Alloy, NewsGator, News hutch, Rojo, Wizag. Writing applications like Gmail, Fleck, Google Notebook, Helipad, Magnoto, Posticky.com, shortText.com, Snap Bits, SNIPPit, StickyTag, stikkit, Workspace, Wridea will be useful to communicate to the farmers and distributors (Laudon and Traver 2013). The utility of flash card exchange, notemesh can be advantageous as any message can be communicated at the time of emergency in manufacturing process. Part B The process model Assumptions The swim lane diagram of the process flow is the consolidation of beginning point, activities, decision, and terminal point. The swim lane diagram the beginning point is the harvesting of the sugar cane from farmers, which is given in the shape of rounded rectangle (Oreilly 2012). The end-point is collection of data for the sales team of BalognePty Ltd. The activities or the functions that undergoes for this manufacturer are Harvesting where sugar canes are harvested and delivered to the mills for further processing. Crystallising this activity includes the drying up of the juices extracted from the sugar cane. Refining the juices are refined from further impurities and filtered and centrifuged Packaging this activity is for the end users of the sugar consumers Distribution and Sales this function is for the companys own requirement. The sales team keeps the data for analysing the earnings and profit that the organisation is making. The swim lane diagram Part C As per the values in the excel sheet the 2014 earnings comes to $1,42,19,900 and 2015 earnings comes to $1,55,62,200. Therefore, the total increase in dollars are ($1,55,62,200 - $1,42,19,900) = $13,42,300 Graph1 That suggests the percentage of growth or loss in two years in 8 categories of sugar is below. Graph 2 Suggests the yearly earnings and difference in earnings between 2 years 2014 and 2015 in dollars. Net profit index product description net profit of 2014 net profit 2015 RAW SUGAR 3085000 3553000 WHITE SUGAR 2595000 2042500 BROWN SUGAR 5255000 6447500 ICING SUGAR 528000 598000 CASTER SUGAR 1358000 1465800 SUGAR CUBES 380400 329400 GOLDEN SYRUP 269500 407000 TREACLE 749000 719000 TOTALS 14219900 15562200 Therefore, from the above table we can conclude that the profit for raw, brown and icing sugar are more profitable in both the years. Conclusion It can be concluded from the above report that the company is in growth in terms of sales and earnings. Further, they can integrate the web 2.0 technology for more effectiveness in communication. The report is useful to interpret with the help of excel sheet. Reference Andriole, S.J., 2012. Financial Management and Cost Accounting
Question: Discuss about the Financial Management and Cost Accounting. Answer: Introduction: Partnership is an association of individuals, which involves two or more than two persons based on an agreement between them. The partnership agreement is preferred to be in writing. An agreement for partnership always has a specific duration. Any change in the membership of the partners results in the dissolution of partnership deed. Various benefits of partnership are: (1) It is free from the government restrictions and regulations (2) Formation of partnership is easy and simple and (3) Easy in making any decisions. All Quiet On The Western Front - Human Experience Essays
All Quiet On The Western Front - Human Experience War is, at the same time, the most terrible and the greatest of human experiences. Is this the view conveyed in All quiet on the western front? In the novel All quiet on the western front by Erich Maria Remarque we see clearly that war is a most terrible experience, with its great horror and ability to destroy a human, not only physically but also mentally. However accompanying this horror is an extraordinary comradeship and friendship that is seen in both the sad and happy times bringing the soldiers together to cope with that horror of the war. This comradeship seen in the novel is the only value that has been retained by the soldiers on the front, despite the loss of all others. Towards the end of the novel it is clear that the only thing keeping the soldiers going is this comradeship, which seems to soften and break through the horror of the war. The horror of war is seen right through the book from the beginning to the end, with a large emphasis on the destruction caused by war and the loss of humanity and innocence. An example of this horror is the graveyard battle scene in which a recruit, who only minutes before was described as being child-like, is hit badly in the hip which is graphically described as one mass of mincemeat and bone splinters. Just before the man is hit, a horse is hit causing it to cry, which is unbearable for the soldiers around it as it reminds them of the innocence of nature that is caught up in the war. However, the men near them who are wounded, are ignored as the soldiers are so accustomed to their sound of death, which shows the true role of the horses death to the reader. These are clear emphasises on the horror, shock and the loss of their innocence seen throughout this chapter, and the rest of the novel. Throughout the book we see the soldiers lose faith in their values that have been drilled into them over the years from school to the army. They begin to realise that the values taught to them are merely tradition or words to encourage, and in fact serve little or no use in the front. An example of this is when the men have to return the new clothes given to them for the Kaiser inspection after being on the front: rags are whats real at the front. This shows how the men no longer feel that there is need to dress up in the army, as it is against the point and deceptive by not giving the real horror of war and the army. Pauls line of It must be all lies and of no account when the culture of a thousand years could not prevent this stream of blood being poured out, expresses this feeling clearly. When it seems that the men have no reason to live with the great horror around them, they continue to fight on for one enduring value, friendship. This value binds the men together their whole lifetime. This value makes the war a great experience in a single aspect, and that is that it causes people to become extremely good friends that act much like family, which in other circumstances without the war would have never become friends, talked or even met. The war caused Paul to become extremely good friends with Kat, who seemed more like a father figure, so much so that when Kat died Paul could not believe it and felt hopeless: The anguish of solitude rises up in me. When Kat is taken away I will not have one friend left. It is clear throughout the book that the men feel that the war is horrible and extremely destructive, beyond anyones imagination that has not experienced the death. Battle scenes especially emphasize the horror of the war, as they are descriptive and give much detail into death and destruction. By relating the death to that of nature, Remarque highlights the innocence of the victims of the terrible human experience. The values of the soldiers are reduced to one sole basic value after all

Golden Rule of Capital Accumulation and Macroeconomic Policy Essay
Golden Rule of Capital Accumulation and Macroeconomic Policy - Essay Example But this steady state rate of growth can vary across economies (Solow, 1994, pp.45-46). In this context the Golden Rule of capital accumulation determines the optimal level of capital per capita that produces the optimal sustained level of per capita consumption in the economy (Mankiw, 2006, pp.110-115). This paper discusses this Golden Rule of capital accumulation and explains implications for macroeconomic policies in this context. Steady state level of capital and output per capita: The Solow Growth model determines the ââ¬Ësteady state level of capital stockââ¬â¢ per capita and the steady state level of output per capita. But the Golden Rule of capital accumulation determines the maximum level of consumption per capita at the ââ¬Ësteady state level of capital stockââ¬â¢ (Blanchard, 2006, p.230). This is called the sustainable level of consumption per capita. Here sustainable means that the present generation of the economy saves exactly that amount which is consistent with the replacement of the loss of capital stock that happened due to depreciation of that capital stock, no more and no less. In this sense this Golden Rule of capital stock provides the optimal level of consumption, savings and investment per capita at each period. Before deriving the Golden Rule capital stock let us first determine the steady state level of per capita capital and per capita output (Arnold, 2011, p.340). Assumptions and observations: Suppose that the aggregate production function is given by Y = F (K, L), where, ââ¬Å"Yâ⬠=aggregate output level ââ¬Å"F ( )â⬠= aggregate function ââ¬Å"Kâ⬠=aggregate level of capital stock ââ¬Å"Lâ⬠= aggregate stock of labour (Solow, 1994, pp.45-54). Let, ââ¬Å"nâ⬠be the constant and exogenous rate of growth of labour force. By dividing the aggregate production function by the stock of labour ââ¬Å"Lâ⬠, we get the per capita production function as, y = f (k, 1), where, ââ¬Å"yâ⬠= per capita output ââ¬Å"f ( )â⬠=per capita function ââ¬Å"kâ⬠= per capita capital stock ââ¬Å"1â⬠is the number. Or this per capita production function can be written as y = f (k). The production function in this economy is assumed to describe the assumption of diminishing marginal productivity, i.e. rate of change in output per capita declines with the increase level of capital stock per capita. That is why the per capita production function is upward sloping and concave. The production function may exhibit constant returns to scale, i.e. one unit increase in the per capita capital raises output per capita by one unit (Baumol, 1986, pp.1072-1101). ââ¬Å"?â⬠is assumed to be the constant rate at which capital stock depreciates in each period. Hence, the total depreciation of capital per capita is: (?+n)*k. Assuming ââ¬Å"sâ⬠as the constant rate of saving per capita, the total level of savings in the economy will be: s*y = s*f (k) As savings rate equals i nvestment, Economyââ¬â¢s investment is given as s*f (k) (Jones, 2002, pp.97-104). ââ¬Å"dk/dtâ⬠measures the rate of change of capital stock per capita and is computed as dk/dt = s*y - (?+n)*k, where ââ¬Å"tâ⬠= time element (for simplicity writing the ââ¬Å"tâ⬠notation is avoided in each function). Hence, the ââ¬Ësteady state level of capital stockââ¬â¢ is achieved for that level of capital stock per capita where the change in capital stock is zero, i.e. , where dk/dt = 0. The steady state capital stock is denoted by k*
